A plant-based food processing company that has been in business for more than 30+ years was looking to upgrade two aging 75 HP fixed speed air compressors. The compressors were more than 30 years old, operating between 12 and 16 hours a day and oversized for the application. Airmatic was given the opportunity to install data loggers to determine the best solution. The data indicated the existing compressors to be operating well below their designed capabilities causing high power draw when not necessary. Selecting a 60 HP VSD and a 50 HP air compressor would deliver yearly energy savings of ~ $ 23,142 and still provide 100% redundancy as required by the customer. The ROI by including a VSD compressor would be ~1 ½ years at which point the $’s saved would cover the new Preventative Maintenance required to keep the new machines in tip-top shape.
